About Me

  • About Me: 1957: mankind launches its first rocket into space and in Harlem, a boy is born to a 17-year-old immigrant. On the birth certificate, the doctor scrawls "Negro" for Father's Race. Standing in New York City, the world's most advanced metropolis, the physician writes, as the race of the mother,"Yellow." In 1975, a young intercollegiate football player gathered in the option pitch, accelerated, sidestepped one tackler and dragged another into the endzone. In the excitement of the moment, he jumped up and realized he didn't have a touchdown dance. In a flash of inspiration, he began to mimic a hula; bad choice where the 35,000 spectators knew the difference between the real thing and a bad Elvis Presley movie imitation. The roar of laughter from Honolulu's Aloha Stadium could be heard from Catalina, it has been told.
